If you want to explore the southwest by mountain bike, you first think of the Swabian Alb, the Black Forest or the Allgäu Alpine landscape. We, on the other hand, would like to take you to the Löwenstein Mountains and the Bottwartal. Both largely belong to the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park and have become an insider tip in the MTB scene in recent years.

Behind this is an initiative by local mountain bikers. They have set themselves the goal of creating a small, nature-friendly biker's El Dorado in close cooperation with the communities. The result: an extensive network of legal trails with a wide variety of characteristics - and the Outdoor Award from the state of Baden-Württemberg.

But even adventurers who don't pedal will get their money's worth in the Löwenstein mountains: with their varied mix of extensive forests, vineyards, castles and tranquil towns, they offer numerous opportunities for extended hikes.

Culinary, culture, nature: the region where France, Germany and Switzerland meet is a mecca for people who know how to enjoy life. The possibilities here are literally limitless. That's why we're limiting ourselves to three stops for this Easter gourmet tour: from Kaiserstuhl via Weil am Rhein and Basel into Alsace.

Station 1:

Fine wine at the Kaiserstuhl

The Kaiserstuhl is the warmest and sunniest wine-growing region in Germany. The Mediterranean air that flows through the Burgundian Gate, low rainfall and volcanic soil create the best conditions for top-class wines. Particularly famous: the Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. These and many other fine wines can be tasted first hand here. Many of the local winemakers invite you to wine tastings and cellar tours.

But the special conditions on the Kaiserstuhl have not only produced exceptional wines, but also a unique landscape. The hiking trails and themed trails in the Kaiserstuhl Nature Park invite you to discover vineyard terraces, Losshöhl alleys, wild orchids and much more.

Design and art in Weil am Rhein and Basel

Anyone interested in trend-setting design and architecture cannot ignore the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein. Frank O. Gehry's sculptural building shell alone is one of the icons of modern architecture. Inside, in addition to the unique collection of furniture, lighting and interior design, there are temporary exhibitions with often experimental content.

Particularly exciting for a visit around Easter: just a few days ago the museum opened a new special exhibition: “Transform! Design and the future of energy”. And for everyone whose desire for culture has not been satisfied in Weil: A new exhibition about the light installations of minimal art pioneer Dan Flavin has also just started at the Kunstmuseum Basel

Station 3:

Fine dining in Alsace

After enjoying so much art, it's time to relax your mind a little. And the best way to do this is to cross the borders at the border triangle again. So off to France – to the connoisseur’s paradise on the Alsatian wine route! The density of stars here is so great that we can hardly make a recommendation. Look forward even more to this (very pleasant) agony of choice. And you can also look forward to culinary poems such as Coq au Riesling, “Foralle met Mandle” or Tarte Myrtille. Bon appétit (or “e Güeter”, as they say in Alsace)!

Varied family fun in the Black Forest

Mobile travel and camping offer families the best conditions to experience a wonderful and intensive time together. Very important: lots of variety and really child-friendly leisure activities. Because there should never be boredom. Our Easter tip for young and old takes you into the diverse world of the Black Forest.

Of course, at the top of the list are the almost endless possibilities for adventure hikes and bike tours. But Germany's largest low mountain range has a lot more to offer, especially to children.

Numerous amusement parks, for example, entice you with a wide variety of offers to let off steam and discover. Among the highlights: the Steinwasenpark near Freiburg with the longest adventure rope bridge in the world at 218 m. Animal-loving children will also find a variety of small paradises in the Black Forest. For example in the alternative wolf and bear park near Bad Rippoldsau-Schapbach, in the Hambrücken bird park or on donkey trekking around Freudenstatt.

And if the weather doesn't cooperate? Then head to one of the many adventure pools or museums in the region. Our tips: the Black Forest bathing paradise at Titisee with 23(!) action-packed slides and the award-winning watch industry museum in Villingen-Schwenningen with lots of interactive participation opportunities.

Recharge your batteries at Lake Constance

For many people, just the view over Lake Constance and the Alps is a source of pure energy. So it's no wonder that there are numerous offers for wellness, spa and well-being around the “Swabian Sea”. In Konstanz and Meersburg, for example, spacious thermal baths invite you to leave everyday life behind, relax and recharge your batteries. Panorama pools, saunas, healing mineral thermal water and numerous treatments for the balance of body and mind offer the best conditions to switch off and pamper yourself for a whole day.

Many hotels on Lake Constance also offer the opportunity to enjoy their wellness offerings as part of day spas. And if you don't let the cool water temperatures at Easter intimidate you, you can simply throw yourself into the waters of by far the largest pool in the area, Lake Constance itself.
