Technological progress: the new HYMER SLC chassis

26/08/2017
Hymer GmbH & Co. KG will be presenting two layouts of the Hymermobil B-Class SupremeLine to the public for the very first time at the Caravan Salon 2017 in Düsseldorf. The long-established company has specially developed a new and one-of-a-kind SLC chassis for this vehicle featuring a high double floor. Thanks to its low dead weight, large payload reserves are guaranteed and the vehicle has a lower centre of gravity, resulting in excellent handling characteristics. As a result, HYMER has laid an important foundation for the chassis technology of the future.

Hymer GmbH & Co. KG is presenting yet another product highlight at the Caravan Salon 2017 in Düsseldorf in the company’s 60th anniversary year: the Hymermobil B-Class SupremeLine. Many changes have been made to the chassis of the new generation of the popular model range in particular. A new, unique chassis design with independent wheel suspension, innovative chassis technology and an extremely light weight provides the foundation for the new model range – it has been given the name SLC. “There was a particular focus on lightweight construction when the Hymermobil B-SL was being designed. We want to offer our customers the most generous payload reserves in the luxury class as well. Compared to a conventional chassis, we’re saving over 70 kilos in weight. Measuring 7.79 metres in length, the new B-SL 704 boasts a mass in running order of just 3,390 kilos, for example. This means the payload reserves total an impressive 1,110 kilos,” explains Jochen Hein, Managing Director of Hymer GmbH & Co. KG. The chassis also has a lower centre of gravity and a larger double floor, which doesn’t have an impact on either the overall height or the headroom inside the vehicle. Similar to a basement, all the technical components are now completely hidden in the new double floor: plumbing and wiring, tanks, all the electronics and even the heater. Completely closed off and with a smooth surface, the new undercarriage increases the clearance, which significantly improves the aerodynamics, fuel consumption, insulation and soundproofing. The double floor in the new Hymermobil B-SL features a spacious through-loading compartment, which stretches across the entire width of the vehicle, can be loaded conveniently from outside and is also accessible from inside through a cellar compartment. In total, this creates up to 998 litres of storage space, which is roughly equivalent to an extra 400 percent capacity compared to similar layouts with a conventional chassis and double floor. As a result, it has also been possible to further increase the volume of the tanks: with a 180-litre fresh water tank and a 150-litre waste water tank, HYMER is offering its customers even higher levels of independence and self-sufficiency.

The new Hymermobil B-SL on an SLC chassis will be available from dealers from September 2017 in the two layout variants 704 and 708.
