Arrival

Our journey to Iceland begins with a four-day journey full of anticipation and a thirst for adventure. On the first day we reach Vejers and find ourselves at Vejers Strand Camping. The unique campsite right on the beach offers us the first opportunity to fully enjoy the amenities of the Venture S. In the middle of the dunes, we spend a quiet night, which is the perfect start to the adventure.

On the second day we continue our journey and reach Hirtshals, where we settle down for the night. On the third day we board the modern Norröna ferry for a 2.5-day crossing. The ferry surprises us with first-class restaurants and comfortable facilities that increase our anticipation of Iceland even more. During the crossing we plan our route and enjoy the view of the endless sea.

Day 1: Seyðisfjörður

After arriving in eastern Iceland, we start our exploration in the charming town of Seyðisfjörður. The colourful church with the rainbow road enchants us immediately. From there, we make our way to the cliffs to watch the fascinating puffins. These birds are surprisingly trusting, which gives us many wonderful photo opportunities. Our next destination is the impressive Stuðlagil Canyon, whose basalt columns form an extraordinary natural structure. We continue to Hengifoss, Iceland's third highest waterfall. Thanks to the 24-hour daylight in June, we can admire the waterfall in all its glory even after midnight and forget the time around us.

Day 2: Bad weather and loss of a drone

A stormy night wakes us up with strong gusts and heavy rain. We then sleep comfortably in the lower part of the Venture S. The practical conversion of the seating area into a double bed means there is enough space for two people. The next morning, an employee at the campsite informs us about a hurricane that is hitting northern England and whose foothills are reaching as far as Iceland. So we decide to drive to the north of Iceland, where the weather is supposed to be better. On the way we fly with our drone to capture some great shots. Since our drone switches off for no apparent reason and suddenly stops working, this leaves us no choice but to drive to Reykjavik to get a replacement drone there.

Combining work and travel is no problem in this motorhome! From the equipment to the fashion collection of our partners, everything finds a suitable place. Thanks to the plenty of storage space and the spacious rear garage, it never gets messy.

Day 3: New drone and back to the east

In Reykjavik we luckily find a replacement and set off on the long journey back to the east, where the weather has improved in the meantime. There we spend the night on the Black Beach of Stokksnes. The impressive Vestrahorn mountain range offers us perfect opportunities for shooting in breathtaking light. Thanks to the midnight sun we can capture the scenery all night long and can't stop marvelling.

Day 4: Stokksness and Diamond Beach

Without sleep, Diamond Beach is our next destination. The black sand beaches, dotted with ice floes washed up by a glacier, offer a unique panorama. This breathtaking landscape keeps us awake all night and we take photos until the early hours of the morning. The contemporary and stylish design of the Venture S makes it a real eye-catcher on every trip and fits perfectly into this fascinating landscape. We then drive to a campsite to catch up on some much-needed sleep in the afternoon. The spacious and comfortable bed in the HYMER Venture S offers us the perfect place to take a break and ensures a restful sleep.

Day 5: Mulagljufur Canyon and Laki

To capture the magical light of the morning, we set off again for Mulagljufur Canyon at three in the morning. The hike through the impressive landscape is an unforgettable experience. We continue to the Laki volcano, whose lava fields transport us to another world. The rough, bizarre formations are reminiscent of film scenes from distant planets and impress us deeply. It is one of our absolute favourites and we can only recommend the highland road there!

Day 6: Mælifell

The next day we venture into the highlands to the F-Roads, the gravel roads of Iceland. The highlight of this day is undoubtedly the Mælifell volcano. Although it is hidden in the mist, we are lucky enough to see it shimmering between the clouds of fog. Its moss-covered, green surface stands out impressively against the black landscape. The journey is full of adventure and in the evening, we fall exhausted but happy into our comfortable sleeping place in the high roof of the Venture S.

Day 7: Lost plane

A rainy day leads us to a surreal sight: an abandoned US Navy plane wreck lying on a remote beach. The 40-minute hike to the wreck is absolutely worth it. The mystical atmosphere and the history of the plane captivate us and offer numerous photo opportunities.

For the journeys of your dreams

The HYMER Venture S defines an entirely new vehicle category – an innovative motorhome that satisfies the loftiest demands in terms of design and function. It sets new standards by combining a distinctive appearance and narrow body with generous interior space. As an exclusively equipped off-roader for two people, the Venture S promises freedom without compromise.

Day 8: Skogafoss, Kvernufoss and the highlands

Early in the morning we reach the imposing Skogafoss, whose huge, loud masses of water amaze us. Next door we find the hidden Kvernufoss waterfall, which is in no way inferior to Skogafoss in its beauty. We then drive into the highlands to explore the Apple Crater (Rauðaskál). The bright red crater walls are an incredible sight. The fact that you can drive right up to the crater thanks to the robust construction and four-wheel drive of the Venture S was indescribable for us. We continue to Haífoss, another impressive waterfall. We end the day in an area with colourful rhyolite mountains called Landmannalaugar. The variety of landscapes in Iceland never ceases to fascinate us and thanks to the practical off-road capabilities of the Venture S we can reach the most remote corners of Iceland with the vehicle.

Day 9: Landmannalaugar and Selfoss

After a restful night, we explore the area around Landmannalaugar. The hot springs, a beautifully landscaped natural pool and the colourful mountains attract numerous hikers and we also set off on a short hike. It's a good thing that we are flexible with our Venture S! This means we can easily avoid the overcrowded campsite and the crowds and continue towards Selfoss to end the rest of the day in peace. On the way out of the area, we come across other large craters and volcanoes.

Day 10: Kerlingarfjöll

Our next stage takes us to the sulphur fields of Kerlingarfjöll, which we visit after a fascinating natural spectacle at the Geysir. The bestial smell of sulphur is compensated for by the breathtaking view of the volcanic landscapes. To take advantage of the perfect light, we stay in the area until shortly before midnight. On the way north we take the F35, a well-known highland road across the country.

Day 11: Exploring the north

As our original tour in the north was interrupted by the loss of the drone, we are now making up for it. We visit the impressive, adjacent waterfalls Dettifoss and Selfoss and then the unique sulphur fields. In the evening, we reach the small town of Husavik and set up camp again at one of the many simple but cozy campsites in Iceland where we are happy to be able to enjoy the luxury of the spacious shower in the Venture S..

Day 12: Whale Watching & West

In Husavik we book a whale watching tour and are very lucky to see several humpback whales and dolphins. This unforgettable experience is another highlight of our trip. We then drive to the western part of the island to visit the black church of Búðir and Kirkjufell, the so-called Sugarloaf Mountain. The diverse landscapes of Iceland never cease to fascinate us, we cannot emphasize this enough.

Day 13 and 14: Reykjavik

Our journey takes us back to Reykjavik, where we spend two days. The charming capital impresses us with its cute cafes and sights. We enjoy delicious cinnamon rolls and explore the city. It is very manageable but has many great restaurants with very tasty food.

Thanks to the changeable weather, we also enjoy a few hours inside the vehicle. The spaciousness and modern design of the interior make us feel like we are at home.

Day 15: Black Beach and Mælifell

After our tour of Reykjavik, we visit Black Beach in the south again and some hot springs and hot tubs. Since we almost miss the volcano, we drive a little further into the highlands to see Mælifell again and take more breathtaking photos. It is cloudy there that day, but not rainy, so the sand appears rather grey. The fact that the places can look very different depending on the weather and time of day is also unique to Iceland.

Day 16 and 17: Flexibility in travel planning

The good weather and our fast travel speed allow us to explore the Westfjords, which were not originally planned on our route due to time constraints. Here too, we are grateful for the camping life and the flexibility that comes with it, which allows us to spontaneously discover new destinations with the Venture S. A particularly remote and quiet campsite offers a welcome change and we enjoy the natural hot spring in cool outside temperatures, which are usually around 15°C with a lot of wind.

Day 18: The unique Westfjords

The Westfjords impress us with their unique landscape, the impressive waterfalls and the old fishing villages. This region is less touristy and offers a welcome peace compared to the overcrowded areas in the south. We are very happy that we took this opportunity to explore this part of Iceland as well.

Days 19 and 20: Return to the ferry

Our last day in the Westfjords takes us to the westernmost point of Iceland and Europe, a crowning conclusion to our trip. We set off on the return journey with mixed feelings. On the one hand, we are delighted with the fantastic experiences, but on the other hand, we are sad that the trip is now coming to an end. Iceland has simply impressed us deeply.

One thing is absolutely clear: we will come back! The return journey on the modern Norröna ferry is a pleasant end to this unforgettable trip.
